Fine finale to the golfing season
High scoring, close finishes and a record entry gave the Aularian Golfing Society’s finale to the 2022 season, at Beaconsfield Golf Club, a familiar competitive edge. On a bright autumn day 21 OAs with a wide span of handicaps teed-off in pursuit of individual and team prizes.
The individual prize eventually went to the ever-consistent Jerry Gray, with 39 Stableford points from Rob Weinberg , who finished runner-up on countback with 37 points from Clive Penwarden with John Gove fourth on 36.
Somewhat inevitably, Jerry Gray also featured in the winning team (best two scores on each hole), along with Jamie Ede and Clive Penwarden. Team runners-up were John Gove, David Hopkins, Peter Jones and Sandy McPherson.
And the last trophy of the season – for the golfer scoring the highest aggregate number of Stableford points in four out of the five Stableford-scoring fixtures throughout the season – went down to the very last fixture and was then decided by a single point. Andrew Beardmore took the Collingwood Cup with 136 points, just pipping the irrepressible donor of the trophy – John Collingwood! A great ending to a great day’s golf and wrapping up a season which promises many more happy repeats in 2023.
