New seasons kicks off in style at The Berkshire

The 2022 AGS golfing season kicked-off in the style to which we have become accustomed. The Berkshire (red) course in fine condition; the greens pretty fast, despite aerating and sanding; and the prevalent heather proving a real test off the tees for all but the longest hitters.

The miscellany of handicaps, ranging from 10 to ‘upper-30s’, gave deputy organiser and scorer David McCammon a tricky job disentangling the Stableford points and prize winners from the field of 20, including the three 80-plus competitors who played off the ladies tees!

But the clear winner of the Atkinson Trophy, with an impressive 39 points was Jerry Gray , four shots better than John Gove, with Sandy McPherson and Chris Hockey separated on countback on 34 for third and fourth places.

Sadly our President/Captain and indispensable organiser Chris Atkinson was not able to make the presentation of his Trophy. He is still in the recovery stages of a bout of Covid-19 and was only able to attend for lunch and to ensure the draw, start sheet and array of prizes were all in place before returning home and leaving the rest of the organisation to David McCammon and our host for the day, The Berkshire’s club captain elect, Adrian Haxby – who presented the prizes.
