Firework day finale at Beaconsfield
An impressive field of 21 Aularians brought their own ‘fireworks’ to the Guy Fawkes’ day finale of the golfing season at Beaconsfield G.C. on the 5th November. The weather was damp but the competitive Aularian spirit was not and, generally, the standard of golf measured up to the excellent quality of the course. As the last fixture of 2019, the day’s results determined this year’s destination of the Collingwood Cup – presented by ‘Collers’ - John Collingwood - to the player with the highest aggregate scores in three of the four AGS annual events.
Leaving no one in any doubt about the justice of his overall triumph (with a season’s aggregate of 101 points), 12-handicapper Gerry Gray also walked off with the day’s first prize – albeit on countback from Clive Penwarden. They both scored an impressive 39 Stableford points.
The full list of this year’s winning performances was:
1st Jerry Gray, Chris Hockey, Clive Penwarden
2nd Nigel Banks, Peter Jones, Peter Lever
3rd John Dennis, Mike Simmie, Bruce Sleather
1st Jerry Gray - 39 pts (on count back)
2nd Clive Penwarden - 39
3rd Ian Durrans - 36
4th Chris Hockey – 33
Nearest Pin (7th Hole) : Ian Durrans
Longest Drives (17th) : Peter Lever (Yellow tee); Michael Archer (Over-80 tee!)
1st: Jerry Gray - 101 points
2nd: Nick Harley - 99
3rd: David West - 98
4th: Peter Jones - 96
Furthermore, as the service in the clubhouse was also exceptional, all those present confirmed their wish that we return to the same venue for our seasonal finale next year. Members will therefore be pleased to hear that our good host, David Jackson, subsequently secured the thumbs up from the club management and so the 2020 Finale will be held again at Beaconsfield GC on Tuesday October 27th 2020.
