Another season has drawn to a close ………..not long after it opened, of course! Our final two fixtures – the Spring / Autumn Meeting at The Berkshire on 12th and the Finale at Beaconsfield on 27th October – were the greatest fun, albeit disappointingly damp. Our thanks go to Gerald Barber and David Jackson, respectively, for setting up two great fixtures at two magnificent venues.
The Berkshire : Nigel Banks emerged the winner, his score of 36 points being most creditable under the wet conditions. Nick Harley, with an almost equally fine score of 35, was runner-up, followed by Ian Durrans and Peter Lever who shared Bronze on 32 points.
Beaconsfield : Some even more remarkable scoring was witnessed at Beaconsfield - Clive Penwarden came through with a handicap-reviewing score of 40, with Ian Durrans and Andrew Beardmore not far behind on 38 – Ian was deemed to be the runner-up on count back. Not surprisingly, they, together with Peter Jones, won the team prize by some distance!
Collers Cup : The award of this end-of-season trophy, generously donated by Collers and awarded to the most successful player of the year, had to be based of the combined scores at two of the three meetings held in this extraordinary year.
Having done the Math (without the benefit of Guy Warner’s calculator!), Ian Durrans was declared the winner with 70 points; Nigel Banks and Nick Harley were joint runners-up with 67, followed by Peter Lever with 64.
Finally, despite the restricted season, it was a delight to welcome three new members and we sincerely hope to see Jamie Ede, Richard McCullagh and Simon Staite on frequent occasions in the future.
The 2021 Fixture List will appear before Christmas and when received, please book the relevant dates in your diary. Meantime, winter well, stay fit and KBO (after Churchill).
